Diversity-Smart Human Resource

The Managers that Capitalize Diversity of Thinking and Lead the Game

Culture-Sensitive Behavioural Interviewing Techniques

TAILORED WORKSHOP OR WEBINAR + ONE-ON-ONE CONSULTING AVAILABLE

Problems with reliability of selection interviews multiply with interviewers and candidates coming from different cultural backgrounds.

HR participants will learn about the differences in perceptions of appropriate behaviour between cultures as there are distinct ways to establish interviewer and interviewee credibility. For example, when discussing personal accomplishments there are perceptual differences regarding self-confidence, arrogance; what frank and open communication is – what sincerity is, and what is considered rude behaviour.

HR participants will also develop appropriate skills for culturally-sensitive eye contact and body-contact such as handshaking – where it might be a sign of trust among some vs. aggression among others.

This workshop combines intercultural communication skills with behavioural interviewing techniques for managers and HR personnel to minimize cultural distortions and remove guess work in selection interviews and make a realistic and reliable assessment of a candidate’s past and future performance.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will develop intercultural communication and body language assessment skills for selection interviews to prevent differences of cultural backgrounds from clouding an interviewers’ ability to realistically assess the credentials of a candidate.
