Body Language for Diversity-Smart Leaders

Knowledge of body language and its variations across cultures is central to effective communication in multicultural contexts. To start with this course, participants would learn to observe and interpret universal aspects of body language and micro-expressions, common to all cultures. They would follow it up with understanding the nature and importance of differences in body language between cultures oriented to direct or indirect communication, and between the high and low context cultures. Finally, they will explore the value of body language as a way to effectively deal with challenges teams face when individuals seek to interact in a language other than their native one.

  • Ability to read and decipher universal aspects of body language and micro-expressions by grasping the theoretical frameworks and practicing the skills to apply learned information.

  • The leadership skills to develop harmony and accelerate performance in multicultural teams by using the knowledge and skills to observe and interpret body language.

Communication for Diversity-Smart Leaders

This course is about leaders advancing their communication skills to the next level–diversity-smart communication. A diverse workforce is creativity, inspiration, and performance that, if not harnessed through enhanced cultural sensitivity, easily translates into cliquing, conflict, and compromised productivity. Participating leaders will appreciate communication as a blend of values variating from one culture to another across the patterns of hierarchical beliefs and importance of relationships and attitudes towards saving face. Developing an eye to recognizing cultural cues, they will learn and practice techniques to adapt their personal communication styles accordingly, thereby minimizing performance casualties and maximizing output.
